Galacta: The Hungry Superheroine (with daddy issues!)

personally loved it. It's typical Adam Warren: chincy, full of pop-culture references, sarcastic, funny as hell, but full of great characterization.

The use of Twitter in the story was great! I wonder if Gali really does have an active twitter acount so I can follow.

I love that Gali really does try to be a hero, and goes to confront her father and figure out what's going on with her rather than give in to her hunger. The ending was kinda weird given that Gali looks like she's about 16, but it's cool too because I'm now curious what kind of mother she'd be. And Gali got to see a side of her father people rarely see, which was neat too.

I really hope this sell well enough for Gali to at least appear in anthologies and stuff. Seriously, this was a great story, and I'd hate to see the character drop be the wayside like Livewires did.

Why Can't More Marvel Comics Be Like This?

20 years ago, I stopped collecting Marvel Comics.

Their tragic, melodramatic mutant soap opera was getting old, and honestly, I see more than enough tragedy in real life to want to turn to it for entertainment.

Today, I bought an issue of Galacta after a 20-year hiatus, because this is the most fun I've ever had with a Marvel product. Considering that my old collection of Marvel comics fills an entire closet, that's saying something.

Much of the credit goes to the legendary Adam Warren, who has created a heroine many of us can sympathize with. There are very few among us who don't have parent issues, and those who say they don't are most likely lying to us or themselves.

Galacta is also neurotically cute, but I do agree with someone who reviewed this at another forum with the opinion that it was a bit of a one-trick pony. I hope that future stories allow the heroine to grow as a character and continue to expand on her viewpoints as she lives and learns on Earth. As most of the story was an internal monologue, interaction with other characters on a more meaningful level would also be nice.

And if any Marvel executives are reading this, know that I would definitely buy a Galacta statue as long as it was a well-detailed, high-quality sculpt in the tradition of Japanese figure companies like Good Smile or Alter.

Elsevilla is the man!

Props to Hector Sevilla who's responsible for the art here. This comic is funny, witty and the art is FANTASTIC.

Hector Sevilla Lujan (aka Elsevilla) is my all time favorite artist and it makes me really happy to support his work.

You won't be disappointed by this one-shot story or it's art, the printing is impeccable and the type lacks mistakes. Printed on magazine paper, with lots of Iron Man adds.

There's a few crossovers that are awesome, for instance you'll see one of the X-Men , and a few other known members of Marvel, but I won't give it away. The ending is hilarious, also.

About the Author
"S. C. Garg, PhD (University of Delhi), is Professor of Physics at School of Sciences, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. Earlier he was Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU and Founder Director of Centre for Learning and Teaching, National University of Lesotho, Roma, Southern Africa. Before joining IGNOU in 1989, he was with the Department of Physics, Hindu College, University of Delhi for about 12 years. With more than three decades of teaching experience in India and abroad, Prof. Garg has co-authored four textbooks in physics at the undergraduate and Masters levels. He has published several research papers in national and international journals and guided several students for their PhD degree. Having been a member of academic councils and management boards of several universities in the India and abroad, he has wide experience in planning and development of curricula and learning materials for different groups of learners. His areas of research are Theoretical Reactor Physics and Physics Education. R. M. Bansal, PhD (University of Delhi), is Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Hans Raj College, University of Delhi. He has more than three decades of teaching experience and has been a member of several committees tasked to revise physics courses. Bad Production Quality

The content of the book looks pretty solid. It's just that random words and parts of words are missing. Symbols in equations are missing. Usually you can infer what was supposed to be there, but sometimes not. Its very very annoying. I don't mind McGraw Hill or Amazon selling a defective book at a discount, but they ought to be up front about it. This is a bad production run.

a masterpiece

I have tried to attack the beast of organizational learning the hard way, i.e. reading books from authors like Chris Argyris. I am so glad I came upon this book.
Highly practical, though not too academic, solidly researched this book is a pleasure to read.
Examples and case stories make this book an easy read.
To apply it, that's another story. unfortunately, it appears to be quite difficult to find a certified trainer for clear leadership. But that's not a problem of the book.

The exercises are also very useful.

Thoughtful guide to turning an office into a collaborative workplace

A chapter in Something Happened, the 1974 novel by Joseph Heller, starts: "In the office in which I work there are five people of whom I am afraid. Each of these five people is afraid of four people (excluding overlaps) for a total of 20, and each of these 20 people is afraid of six people, making a total of 120 people who are feared by at least one person...[Everyone is] afraid of the 12 men at the top who helped found and build the company." That's a lot of fear. Does this environment sound familiar? Distrust, depression and anxiety are endemic in many organizations. According to professor and consultant Gervase R. Bushe, such negative emotions often result from the "interpersonal mush" that plagues offices. He details a program you can use to help eliminate the mush and create a workplace that fosters partnership and collaboration. getAbstract recommends Bushe's intelligent, well-researched book to all executives, as well as to anyone who wants to learn how to relate to others honestly, openly and straightforwardly.

Life-changing.

So I think I actually have been reading the older publication of this book that a friend lent me, but I bought the kindle version so I could have it on hand all the time. This book has been life changing for me. I've always been terrible at figuring out my emotions, and I know I ignored them most of my life until it became a problem and I started having anxiety issues out of the blue.

This book really helped clarify everything I'd been learning about myself and others. I'd been introduced to the idea of relational 'boundaries' in other books before, but without the emotional intelligence to inform your decisions, boundaries (or rules) are just not enough. This book is really foundational and kind of puts the rest of the books on boundaries to shame, even though it's not even advertised as a book on boundaries.

I am now so aware of when I am making up 'stories' about people to fill in the gaps of my understanding of them. Just the first 60 pages or so were all I needed to do a 180 at work and with some of my closest friends. I found I'd been mislabeling people for years!! I've been telling eveyone about this book it's so good!!

In A World of Superheroes and Supervillains

This book is truly unique in regards to writing style. It's written in third person, but almost more like a narrative at times rather than as an author... like it's being told and not described I guess is the best way to explain it. I read the Kindle version, and it didn't have much spacing which made it confusing at times. It was all mashed up in paragraphs where people were speaking and it got rather confusing as to who was saying what.

The story, however, was good. It starts with a boy with the power to spit acid deciding to join the supervillians instead of the superheroes, and his reasons for doing so. I guess the thing I liked the most was the reasoning behind it all, which is very plain. The characters kind of describe themselves like a psychologist would, example (not really in the story, but for simplicity): "I would rather join the team of villains because I've had a bad childhood and I really don't like people." Ok. Thanks for sharing and keeping it real.

The overall premise is that super-people can gain different powers throughout their life and eventually be able to become like a god. The powers they have are reflected in the color of their iris, which I thought was a good touch. Of course, the heroes and villains are often at odds with one another, but in a somewhat subdued way, like, they would be friends if they could be, or if they hadn't had a bad/good childhood or didn't value/not value human life. Very quirky.

Like I said, I did like the book, but perhaps someone who is more interested in superheroes would like it more, maybe even love it. Worth checking out if you like comic books, stories about superheroes, and books about evil vs. good.

This book is a fun read. This book has super villains and super heroes in it. I love Superman so this book was great for me. I loved the characters and the story. This book makes me wonder what the new "Batman vs Superman" movie will be like. Maybe it will be along the same lines as this book. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

The paper is good quality, and it isn't so glaringly-white that you stop reading with a mild headache.
