excellent technology primer for this subject area

As a database designer and programmer for over a decade, I had always wondered how a business rules engine might actually be implemented. What were the neccessary "parts"? What was the overall technology strategy for turning documented rules into executable actions? What might an interface need to look like, and what functionality would it need to offer to support a working business rules engine? All these questions are answered in this book. The implementation design provided (as working code in Microsoft Access and VBA) is not "enterprise" ready in the sense that is would support hundreds of users and tens of thousands of business rules. But it is a comprehensive "proof of concept" - with working code - that clearly addresses design and implementation strategies and methods required for these engines. This book has now surely given me more understanding about how these engines can work than probably anyone else has in my organization of over 1000 employees (that admittedly has never implemented this type of funtionality but may very well need to do so sometime in the future).

Prerequisites for understanding this tutorial would be sound understanding of relational database theory (what effective information processing systems do not require this understanding?), good basic understanding of conventional database development concepts, as well as understanding of typical data processing required for both interactive data entry and batch processing of data.

Too confusing

The book is more focused on business rules engine setup from a physical table design perspective. It fails to clearly elaborate on the modeling of the declarative structure of business rules as ERD and associated table structure. The approach outlined and the examples do not reflect the all categories of business rules. Also it is not clear from the sample application that is provided for download how different category of rules are designed and assembled for transactional working. In fact the sample rules implementation in the book is more associated with (physical) application screen design rather than organizational process logic; also, such implementation could have been more easily done through triggers in an enterprise class DBMS like Oracle than desktop DBMS like Access which lacks such capability.

Warning: Read before buying!

As a C++ developer recently tasked to design a "rules-engine" for a real-time application, I purchased this book with the hope of discovering an alternative to a "true" rule-engine (i.e., one that utilizes rule chaining and a pattern matching algorithm).

Although this book does give a step-by-step description of how to implement a "rules-engine" using Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications, there is absolutely no discussion of how a rules-engine could be implemented in any other development environment.

The relevant material in the book could easily be presented in about 200 pages or less. Rules are not really addressed until chapter 15. Most of the early chapters deal with such topics that are tangential at best. Just one chapter discussing the differences between the type of rule-engine described in the book and an expert system type of rule-engine would have made the book useful.

This book is the result of a decision taken in 1980 to begin studying the history of mathematics in the nineteenth century. I hoped by doing it to learn some� thing of value about Kovalevskaya herself and about the mathematical world she inhabited. Having been trained as a mathematician, I also hoped to learn something about the proper approach to the history of the subject. The decision to begin the study with Kovalevskaya, apart from the intrinsic interest of Kovalevskaya herself, was primarily based upon the fact that the writing on her in English had been done by people who were interested in sociological and psychological aspects of her life. None of these writings discussed her mathematical work in much detail. This omission seemed to me a serious one in biographical studies of a woman whose primary significance was her mathematical work. In regard to both the content of nineteenth century mathematics and the nature of the history of mathematics I learned a great deal from writing this book. The attempt to put Kovalevskaya's work in historical context involved reading dozens of significant papers by great mathematicians. In many cases, I fear, the purport of these papers is better known to many of my readers than to me. If I persevered despite misgivings, my excuse is that this book is, after all, primarily about Kovalevskaya. If specialists in Euler, Cauchy, etc.

This is a great book, and a wonderful contribution to both the history of mathematics, and to the explanation of the very mathematics that Kovalevskaya has worked on. We need more such books. I wish Springer would re-issue it in paperback.

It would hardly be fair for me to review my own book. You need an impartial opinion, such as that of my mother, who unfortunately didn't live to see her son become an author; I think she would have liked it, however. As for me, I'm happy to find it's still available after 13 years!

SWEET. SIZZLING. PERFECTION.

Ahhhhhhh! Reece, Reece, Reece!!!! Sweet, sinful Reece. Gah!

This man.

I love him with the kind of love that borderlines fanatical! He's something else. Another dimension. He's so broken, so intense, but also so soft and sweet. It's a beautiful and dynamic paradox. It makes me shiver. As I was reading Sinfully Mine, I felt myself falling. I was at the edge of a cliff and I tumbled head first into a full blown love fest. He took ALL of my senses and put them on high alert. It was amazing. I really and truly can't explain it.

After reading and adoring The Gentleman Mentor, I was a buzz with what was going to happen in this book. I had huge expectations. HUGE. The sneak peek at the end of Hale's novel was such a tasty and tantalizing morsel, I knew I had to get my hands on Reece and Macey's story. And I had to do it soon. It was going to be good, I just knew it.

What I didn't know was that Reece was so much more damaged than Hale. That caught me off guard. I'm not sure why, but he was so much deeper than I initially thought he was. He's tortured by a broken heart and that heart has been closed off, afraid to make any emotional connections with woman. He's living life but not really living. He throws himself into work and he's a hell of a business man. He doesn't take on submissive's. He does scenes at Crave, has hookups here and there, but for the most part, he keeps him self alienated from the world. **Ah, my heart. My Reece.** He exists like that until Macey shows up.

Macey's appearance shakes him to the core. It's been six, long years since they've seen each other. And time hasn't healed old wounds, if anything it's just caused them to ooze silently. During their time apart, Macey's changed. She's not the same girl Reece fell in love. She's a hot blooded, beautiful woman who's coming off a bad break up. She's looking for a change. For something to breathe life into her her veins. She wants to spice things up and she wants Reece.

What I totally ADORED about Macey was that she pushed Reece's limits without realizing it. Her personality is as big as Texas. She's easy to love and a couple times in this story my heart broke for her. Reece doesn't treat her right. He's so broken, he doesn't know how to. He can't. But Macey is a strong woman. She knows what she wants. I loved seeing her relationship with Hale (her brother) and I LOVVVVEDDD seeing Hale's protective side when it came to his sister. It added so much depth to the story!

Ahh! Hale. Reece. **faints** You have to meet these men. Dear, God. They are HAWTTTTT!

Overall Sinfully Mine rocked. It's steamy, but I think it's more emotional than anything else. The BDSM aspect is very light. Like super, duper light. There are a couple "Dom-ish" scenes but those are more emotionally explosive than anything else. Reece is not open to a relationship, so when Macey shows up and they agree (with Hale's begrudging approval

A unique & welcome perspective

As the author of "Defending A King ~ His Life & Legacy" about the incomparable Michael Jackson, I have a special and perhaps relentless interest in MJ that has led me to read most of the books about him. "Will You Be My Friend" is unique in its depiction of MJ, already the mega-famous entertainer, in relationship with the author when he was just a boy who was privileged to get to know the human side of Michael Jackson across years of travel, adventure, and fun.
It is refreshing and uplifting to read about the greatest entertainer of our times as he befriends, mentors, and enjoys simple pleasures with his young friend Michael [the author] in various settings along his concert tour route. The innocent, childlike MJ emerges from the pages as a caring, fun-loving, humble, and down-to-earth man who loved life, loved children, and interacted with kids at their level -- a kid himself at heart. Thank you to Michael Jacobshagen for writing this book and for the right reasons -- to provide MJ fans and the general public with his special, firsthand perspectives on the consummately famous man who shared everyday experiences with him and truly became his friend.

Yes but you Michel Jacobshagen so disrespected Michael Jackson by posting pictures on social media of his sacred and final resting place. Which BTW looks like you photo bombed his crypt. Wow!! And to film with a tabloid? Then one thing MJ hated. Being a "friend" you should know this. No I would never give you a penny!! Sad you sold out your precious friendship for that almighty $$$.

Boring and strange

This book is very strange and boring. No new information about Michael Jackson.

Mr. Jacobshagen wrote in his book, that he has met Michael Jackson for the first time at Disneyland Paris in 1995 and he published photos of a boy with "Bayern Munich" Cappy on his website. Unfortunately, the face of Mr. Jacobshagen is not clearly visible on these photos. On Youtube exists a French News-Video, that shows the face of the boy with the cappy clearly. This boy looks not like Mr. Jacobshagen!

It is also strange, that Mr. Jacobshagen has published in his book only photos with him and Michael Jackson from 1998 (Hotel Bayrischer Hof/ Cirus Krone).
He wrote in his book, that he accompanied Michael Jackson during the History Tour. Where are the photos from Disneyland-Paris or from his time with Michael Jackson on Tour, why only Munich?

Also interesting is the interview of Mr.Jacobshagen and his mother - in 1998 was his name Michael Mondtkowski - with RTL Televison from 1998 (Video also available on Youtube only in german language). According to the interview Mr. Jacobshagen has met Michael Jackson for the first time in Munich in 1998. Im irritated, that Mr. Jacobshagen or his mother nothing said about his longtime friendship with Michael Jackson since 1995 or that he accompanied Michael Jackson during the History-Tour. Nothing!!!

  About the Author
  

  Evelyne de Leeuw, PhD,�has worked and studied in universities in The Netherlands, the USA, El Salvador, Canada, Denmark and Australia. She holds degrees from Maastricht University and the University of California at Berkeley. Her PhD (1989) investigated the feasibility of developing and implementing Healthy Public Policy at the national level, and analysing that this is virtually impossible she found that whole-of-government health (policy) approaches would be more easily achieved at the local level – hence a commitment to Healthy Cities since the mid-1980s. Her quest for the development and application of health political science was side-lined routinely – by being elected Secretary-General of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region ASPHER (1992-1998), Editor-in-Chief of Health Promotion International (since 2010), foundation director of health promotion research and public health teaching institutions (Syddansk Universitet, 2000-2005, Deakin University 2008-2013), and recreational writing outings. Currently she enjoys being professor and director of the Centre for Health Equity Training Research and Evaluation (CHETRE), based at the University of New South Wales, SouthWestern Sydney Local Health District, and the Ingham Institute.

  Jean Simos, PhD, became, after his doctorate thesis, Head of a research group on environmental assessment at the Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. From 1992 to 2000 he worked as scientific advisor for the Directorate of Public Health, Geneva, Switzerland, and from 2000 to 2007 he became its Deputy Director, in charge of environmental health and health promotion. Since 2007, he is Head of the research group on environmental health, Institute of Global Health, University of Geneva. He was involved in the WHO Healthy Cities European Network from 1994 to 2007 as a local coordinator and since 2009 as a WHO advisor. He is also president of the WHO Collaborating Centre for francophone Healthy Cities, Rennes, France. He took on several missions around the world for WHO, World Bank and Swiss Development & Cooperation Agency as an environmental health expert, particularly in link with health promotion, Healthy Cities, health impact assessment, and multiple criteria decision aid (ELECTRE methods). He is invited professor at the University of Liege, Belgium, since 2011, was invited lecturer in University Paris-Dauphine in 2015, and he is a member of the High Council for Public Health, France, since 2011.
