Best of the AvP trilogy

I absolutely LOVE this book! I think they did a real good job it. What i especially liked about this one is that the author would not only give you insight on what the humans were thinking, the predators also. This book answered alot of my questions that I had about the Yautja(predators) and also other interesting facts. I agree with some reviewers that the Aliens were not in this book much...thats actually how it is in all 3 books. I've read the other books Predators books as well -- Predator: Cold War, Big Game, and Concrete Jungle. I've also read pretty much all the comic books that Dark Horse has published. Dont get me wrong, i enjoyed these books(concrete jungle & cold war), but they never gave me what I wanted..which was more about the Predator. I was totally relieved and excited that the authors went into it! And for a bonus, i've also read AvP: Hunters Planet and AvP: War. Basically for those books, I only found the end of them interesting. This was because pretty much all the action was saved for the end. What I didn't I found troublesome about this Trilogy was that there was a HUGE plot hole in the story. If you read all 3, you'll know what I mean.
Bottom line -- if you'd like to know more about the Predator, this is the probably the best source!

Husband read it in 2 hours!

I bought this book for my husband who is an avid reader and sci-fi fan (and of course an Arnold Schwarzeneggar fan). I only bought this one to start in case he didnt like it. But he sat down and read it in about 2 hours give or take 30 minutes. So I will be buying him the rest of the series.

an entertaining pulp

i bought this book thinking that it was a graphic novel,and i felt disappointed after realising that it's not. so i decided afterwards to finish reading it fast.but to my surprise ,i ended up liking it.
i wanted to give it a five star,but the fact that it's an adaptatoin from a graphic story by randy stradley and chris warner,and that it's written by two people, a father and daughter team,steve perry and stephani perry,changed my mind.
the story.human colonization of outer space,a planet called ryushi,a wrong choice, for we discover later that the predators use it as a training ground.the human with their cattle and ranches,the predators with their aliens fox hunting.the ranchers don't like their female japanese boss.a young predator warrior doesn't like his captin.discoveries of both sides , the aliens break loose and the plot thickens.
what i really liked about the book is it's depiction of the predators army life ,their language and the human encounter ,especially on pages 164 and 165.this form of greeting,placing the right hand on the left sholder of a friend and shaking it slightly,is used by sudanese men in sudan africa.i don't know if the writers know that or not.
an enjoyable pulp.

Garbage

Terrible book required for my college course. The authors really think too much of accountant's importance and constantly veer off topic. In one chapter that is completely about finance--not accounting--the authors start off by saying something like, "You might -think- that finance does not belong in an accounting book..." Yeah, I do think that. Stay in your own field.

Good screenplay, GREAT movie!!!

This screenplay was fun to read, and it is a good companion book for anyone who--like me--adores the film! It was fun to read all of the scenes that were cut from the movie, as well as to discover how some of the scenes were moved around or shortened. The interview with Steven Shainberg was also interesting to read...and finding out why Erin Cressida Wilson decided to write the script is enlightening (on many levels)! The only thing that annoys me is that there are only four color photos, but several black and white ones somewhat make up for this. Overall, an amusing screenplay for fans of the film!

a most unusual secretary

The screenplay of this very funny story of an unusual boss/secretary romance is fun to read if you enjoyed the film, you get to read all the scenes that were cut. Most of the scenes involve Lee's family and friends, who feature more prominently in the screenplay than they do in the film. Particularly amusing is a scene where Lee watches her friends waxing their legs, and realises she has found another wonderful way of inlficting pain on herself. Later she rushes off to the chemist to buy loads of wax, another funny scene cut from the movie. The introduction, in which Erin Cressida Wilson explains how she came to write the screenplay, is fascinating. I found myself gritting my teeth with annoyance though, when I read the interview with director Steven Shainberg at the end of the book. I found myself thinking how nice it would be to be able to push Mr. Shainberg into a very large and smell garbage dump. Has the thought ever crossed his mind that she might find staying at home preferable to being stuck in some dreary office all day? No, I don't suppose so. Oh well, the screenplay is fun to read anyway.

The book contains a foreword by Norman Grubb, author of Rees Howells, Intercessor also published by The Lutterworth Press, and a preface by Rees Howells' son, Samuel Rees Howells, Director of the Bible College of Wales.

Surprising

I read _Rees Howells, Intercessor_ several years before. I was expecting this book to be written in a similar style, with great power. But I was surprised instead by it's quietness and peace. A lot of it is Howells' choice of a verse or two, and a short message on that verse. I highly recommend reading it.

Great book!!!

I've read a bit more than halfway through it so far. This book is very informative and well written. It's a perfect study guide for Cisco CCNA certification. It also contains a lot of information about Cisco products, networking best practices and advice, a lot of tips and tricks (this guy obviously knows what he's talking about).

I consider myself a beginner/intermediate in networking and so far, it's been quite easy to understand the concepts explained. Plus all this info will probably be useful as reference ongoing. It even covers newer stuff like those sexy Cisco IP phones that you see on all TV shows now.

I like the way the author explains things, for example I have heard my colleagues speak about EtherChannel and port trunks and VLANs... all this sounded like rocket science to me, until I read an example that compares EtherChannel and port trunks and VLANs to a freeway overpass in the VLAN chapter. Now I get it!!! Also, the diagrams in the book make it very easy to understand some of the more advanced stuff.

This book has been very helpful so far. It helps me understand networking stuff that felt intimidating before. I am quite confident about the CCNA test now. I'll probably use the tip and tricks and best practices ongoing as a reference. I highly recommend this book.

Great Study Guide and Desk Reference!

I have pretty much read through this exam guide cover-to-cover and must say this is a solid book for preparing for the CCNA exam. I have 10+ years experience in the IT field and I am using this guide to polish up my Cisco skills and earn my CCNA. This book also doubles as a nice desk reference when not studying for the test. At about 1000 pages (Holy Bible size and weight ;-), the book contains a wealth of Cisco and networking knowledge, lots of practice test questions as well. I recommend it for dummies and non-dummies alike!

An OK Primer

This book is by no means an exhaustive resource to pass the CCNA which is why I gave it the primer title. I recently read CCENT for dummies before this, which by the way, is an excellent resource to help pass the ICND1. Without reading that, I could imagine this book to be very, very difficult for a real beginner. Other than than that, it's a great book to get a good overall picture of each topic, I will definitely be using this book as a resource in the future if I feel I need to brush up on a topic. Overall a good book but I found the WAN section at the end to be poorly written, precisely because WAN was never a strong point of mine and this book did absolutely nothing to help me clear up the topic. Overall I give it 3 stars and wish for authors of the dummies series to truly write books for dummies else write your book under a different name.
