Longer than it needs to be but the simple GOLDEN advice is:
Do your demo BACKWARDS, kinda like a cooking show.

E.g., I make speech therapy software.
So I'd :

1. Show the software in action (ideally with a video of a stroke survivor using it)
2. Show maybe an easy, medium and hard exercises.
3. THEN show them how they can choose different lessons and different difficulty levels.

So... you show the PAYOFF first, then the "how to" aftwards.

Good book, but too long and too cute

Despite stating his preference for substance over style (p. 169) Mr. Cohan lets his style overwhelm the content of his book. Great Demo! contains excellent advice and is very practical in their presentation, particularly for people who are starting in a field role and need a basic road map for their customer encounters.

As far as style, Mr. Cohan's tendency to tell long stories from his experiences in the field ("...I set up my computer, connected to a network connection, and adjusted the LCD projector" p. 146) makes this book too long. Additionally, The Author's tendency to capitalize! Random Nouns and obsessive use of Exclamation Marks! disrupt the flow of reading. Lastly, for a writer that claims that "Humans are visual creatures" (p. 86) the lack of any illustration or charts, except sample customer org charts, is curious. I can think of a graphic model showing the author's proposed methodology and the progress made through it, allowing the reader to visualize their own progress.

In the substance section, the book is a very solid interpretation of solution selling for technical sales engineers. It gives a good methodology for discovery as well as structure for creating demos and presentations that may help capture the audience and create interest and discussion.

I recommend the book to whoever is starting in a technical sales role or feels the need to ramp up their presentation or to those managers interested in closer integration of their sales force and technical field teams.

To Mr. Cohan I recommend hiring a qualified editor for his next book.

This one is a Keeper!

Right up front, I will let you know that Laurinda is a friend of mine, and I've seen almost all of these in person (and the putting together of the book) since the start. That being said, I want everyone to know, Laurinda's patterns are not only easy to follow, but the styles are classic yet fresh, and I can't imagine anyone not adoring this book. The fact that these patterns were put together with CJ Reid's book in mind just makes it even more fun. This will be a timeless book..get your now and be the envy of your friends! (Tell them to get their own..if they borrow it they may not bring it back, heh).
I also suggest getting the companion fiber fiction - it makes the whole experience even better. Enjoy!

Historical Crochet for the Modern Crocheter

Admittedly, I am biased because I wrote the novel that inspired Laurinda to make these patterns. But even that sentence isn't quite true--we worked together as the novel formed to create the patterns. I suggested period clothing and accessories to her that I found during my research to add into the story and then watched in wonder as she transformed them into something historical with a little nod to modernity. I'm still amazed by Ailee's Wedding Shawl, I adore Marjorie's Wrapped Shawl (can't wait to finish mine to wear), and Cadha's Celtic Capelet, with that amazing Celtic knotwork, is so fun to make. The fact that they were 'inspired' by my story is just icing on the cake.

About the Author
Yusufu Turaki is a Professor of Theology and Social Ethics at the Jos ECWA Theological Seminary (JETS) and Director of the Centre for the Study of Religion, Church and Society (CRCS). He holds a Ph.D. in Social Ethics from Boston University, and a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at Yale Divinity School. He was the General Secretary of the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA), is a former National Vice-President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and worked with the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA) and the International Bible Society (IBS) in Nigeria and Kenya.

Tainted Legacy: Islam, Colonialism and Slavery in Northern Nigeria, by Yusufu Turaki.

Yusufu Turaki provides an overview of the background forces influencing the present condition of Nigeria: the strategic expansion of Islam into Nigeria, the operational influence of British Colonial rule which tended to advance and consolidate Islam against the Nigerian countryside; and, the tactical impacts of Islam before, during and after the British presence.

The outline of the book, reproduced below, begins with an overview of the country and then articulates how Islam, peacefully at first, and then by violence, advanced against the Nigerian people displacing traditional religion and Christianity and implementing Islamic based slavery.

Turaki identifies key themes of Islam and then describes how Islam asserted itself through introduction, lodgment, expansion, agitation and subjugation. He provides a template that can be used in other country studies to measure how Islam asserts itself using identifiable, predictable, doctrine. He then discusses how Islam expanded against the Nigerian people and how uninformed British policy facilitated the expansion while retarding Islam��s ideological competitors. There are key indicators showing that while the British may have exerted Colonial Rule, they were also being subtly manipulated by ��cultural advisors�� who performed the quiet, behind the scenes, manipulation of the policy formulation process to advance Islamic interests against non-Muslims.

There is material here for historians of slavery. As noted in W.E.B Du Bois text, The Negro, Chapter 9, ��The Trade in Men��, Islam elevated slavery to a civilizational level of industry and Turaki explains how that program of slavery unfolded as a major economic pillar of Nigerian Sokoto Caliphate. Critics of the Western experience with slavery may be surprised by the nature and extent with which Islam enslaved African Muslims and sold them to bondage.

Overall, Turaki has provided an incisive assessment of the ideological forces applying themselves against the Nigerian people, a template for tracking internal National decay, and a warning about the consequences of uninformed policy.

I am an amateur makeup artist so I am teaching myself and this book is a great place to start . Step by step instructions with pictures (I can't tell you how many books I have purchased that didn't feel pictures were necessary and they weren't cheap) and so much they I had read before now made total sense after reading this book. It also includes a ton of info making blood and ice effects which I haven't seen before. D Definitely happy with this book. I can't what to start the process against again with a much clearer picture
